C-DoT to launch LTE router, offer Wi-Fi connectivity in villages

NEW DELHI: State-run telecom R&D centre C-DoT is set to soon launch a 4G-LTE router it has developed and could also offer Wi-Fi connectivity in rural and remote areas.

Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) has been developing home-grown technologies, and is engaged with many private sector players for technology transfer for next-generation services.

“We are working on the radio-side of LTE and will be launching eNodeB router within next two months,” C-DoT executive director Vipin Tyagi told ET, and added that the PSU manufactures globally-competitive products.

eNodeB, a key component of 4G-LTE networks, facilitates service providers to “economically and efficiently” improve outdoor and indoor mobile service coverage and helps improve end-user experience in data-rich markets.

“We are working on innovative initiatives and creating data-oriented infrastructure for next generation services that include 3G GSM backhaul connectivity and IP leased lines simulation from national optic fiber network,” Tyagi said.

C-DoT has also designed Broadband Wireless Terminal (BBWT) – a cost-effective Wi-Fi solution with hot spots for offering IP connectivity in villages through wireless network. It has already leveraged it at 180 locations.

“BBWT is a cost-friendly solution that provides horizontal connectivity up to 10 kilometers beyond panchayat-level national optic fibre network terminal,” the official added.

The indigenously-developed technology, which also comes with solar capability, operates in 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz license exempt band and uses spectrum sensing that help in choosing channel with minimum interference.
