Reliance Communications launches content and cloud delivery network in five Indian cities

NEW DELHI: Reliance Communications Tuesday said that it has deployed its next-generation content and cloud delivery network or Cloud Xchange (Cloud X) nodes in five cities Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, and plans to achieve full deployment of this network by the end of this year.

Cloud X is designed to deliver not only infrastructure provisioning in a few clicks, but the deployment of complex multi-tiered enterprise applications directly on to enterprise networks in minutes, rather than months, the company said.

“Cloud X is changing the paradigm of Cloud Computing. The network must now undergo a profound transformation, from a static entity to a dynamic intelligent, application-aware fabric that can support multiple traffic requirements, diverse geographies and flexible pricing models,” Bill Barney, CEO of RCom Enterprise and Global Cloud Xchange (GCX), said.

Barney said the company will deploy the Cloud X platform in 122 locations in the next 24 months.

The platform supports network transparency and Cloud orchestration, which is a key element in accelerating enterprise applications to the cloud. It runs on top of the company’s IP/MPLS, global Ethernet and global backbone networks, and in support with the company’s data center facilities.

Reliance Cloud Xchange has tied up with IT majors IBM and Hitachi for software and hardware support for the Cloud X platform.
The company is primarily targeting Banking and Technology verticals, and Small-Medium sized enterprises through the Cloud X platform. Barney also informed that GCX is helping start-ups in the country through its cloud network. “We have incubated 155 start-ups in Bangalore, and are providing low-cost network infrastructure to them. We started this 90 days back and are planning to expand this further,” he said.

During the Digital India week launch, Anil Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Group said that group will invest Rs 10,000 crore to fund transformational initiatives across the Cloud, Digital and telecom space. Barney said that a huge part of this figure will go towards the cloud and data center network.
