Vodafone joins 4G war, to launch 4G services by end of 2015

If you’re looking to upgrade to 4G this year, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Telecom companies would battle each other to get your attention. And Vodafone doesn’t want to be left behind either.

The company’s CEO Sunil Sood announced recently that their 4G trials are underway. “We will be rolling out our 4G towards the latter half of the year in select towns”, he said. The company owns 4G spectrum in only 5 circles.

Presently, Bharti Airtel offers 4G in 23 cities across India. This includes Kolkata, Pune, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and a few more. The company is looking to expand it’s network. It has started trials in Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad. The Delhi launch is also inevitable now that the Department of Telecom has given it’s green signal.

Apart from Airtel, the much delayed Reliance Jio too is all set to launch 4G services by mid-July. According to media reports, the company would soon finalize its wholesale distributors. It is reportedly in talks with several Chinese manufacturers to source 4G enabled phones as having enough 4G sets is critical. The 4G devices are expected next year.

Looks like the influx of new players in the market will substantially change the 4G equation in India. The fierce competition will force telecom companies to offer competitive prices.

4G stands for ‘4th generation’ mobile data services. It currently delivers the fastest mobile internet experience with download speeds 10 times faster than 3G. If you’re a prospective customer, this is definitely music to your ears.
